“Unngh…” Archeru groaned, stirring amidst the leaf litter that carpeted the forest ground. His body was a rumpled mass of feathers and claws as he struggled to pick himself up. “Damn, my head hurts like hell.” He rubbed the drowsiness from his eyes with a feathered arm and gazed blearily around him, warily taking in his surroundings. “What am I doing here? I can’t remember…”

He was in the forest, lush green and dense with its natural foliage of trees and shrubs. But it didn’t feel right somehow. There was a heavy, unsettling silence around him, falling thickly and clinging wetly to the very air itself. The leaves didn't rustle, there was no birdsong and even the wind itself seemed to hold its breath.

The ominous hush prickled at his nape, and Archeru fluffed up his neck feathers, shivering. This wasn't right. Everything was alright before…

Before!

Archeru’s eyes widened. The mission! They were trying to save Jasmine from Shade. They had finally reached the heart of the forest when a burst of bright light enveloped everything…and he had blacked out. He definitely wasn't in the heart of the forest anymore. And everyone was gone.

“Zig!” he yelled, beginning to run. “Tam! Flint! Colin! Sophia!” His voice grew more frantic with each name. “Guys, where are you?” The forest was not only silent, with his shouts being swallowed into nothingness, but it seemed almost…empty.

He huffed in frustration, forcing down the bubbling panic that had begun to rise in the pit of his belly. The light explosion appeared to teleport him to another part of the forest. Maybe the others were teleported away too. They had to still be here.

Archeru took a deep breath, ready to call out again when he heard a twig snap from behind him. Instantly, he whipped his head around, sharp dark eyes searching. “Who’s there?”

Archeru’s sharp eyes picked out a flash of red fur and sighed with relief as recognition hit him. “Zig!” he breathed. “Thank goodness, I’ve been looking for you.” But to his surprise, the shiny Zigzagoon didn’t pause, charging past him with frightening force, his purple eyes uncharacteristically hard and cold.

He was about to give chase when a Teddiursa darted after Zig. “What on earth? “Zig! Zig, where are yo—“

And then something crashed into him.
